Tennessee Coaching Search: Who Would Be Best Fit For Vols?
By Zach Ragan
Gary Patterson — TCU Head Coach
Gary Patterson doesn’t have any SEC experience, but he’s coached in Texas since 1998. I don’t think he’d have any problems recruiting in the south or adjusting to the area.
Patterson also spent two years on the staff at Tennessee tech in the early 1980’s. That was a long time ago, but it’s not like he’s Chris Petersen and only has one year of coaching on the the east coast on his resumé.
This would also be a home run hire for the Vols. Patterson is a proven winner. He’s done a lot with a little at TCU. There’s no reason to think he would fail to kill it at Tennessee.
Patterson would be worth throwing a lot of money at, but it would probably be hard to convince him to come to Knoxville.
