Top Titans Storylines Heading into Training Camp

2. The Wide Receivers
The wide receiver department for the Tennessee Titans has been an issue. The injury bug is at Saint Thomas Sports Park, and it has been attacking the receiver department for quite some time.
Titans’ number one receiver, Rishard Matthews, was held out of minicamp due to an undisclosed injury. That is not something you want to hear as a Titans fan. Matthews is the most reliable receiver that Mariota has. Last year, Mariota found himself forcing the ball to tight end Delanie Walker and Matthews, and his lack of chemistry with his receivers caused multiple overthrown passes and interceptions.
It was a train-wreck last season, a train-wreck which sent Mularkey’s exotic smashmouth system flying off track. Now, new offensive coordinator Matt LeFleur wants to fix that issue by building a system around his quarterback that will allow him to feel comfortable with his receivers and tight ends.
Here is LeFleur’s issue: injuries. You can add Corey Davis‘ injury next to Matthews, and they are two of the Titans’ top receivers. During minicamp, Davis held out of team drills due to an undisclosed injury. Same as Matthews.
Davis was drafted fifth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft to give Mariota the deep threat he has needed his entire career. The Titans have had tough luck since then, because he’s barely seen the field.
One could argue that with guys like, Taywan Taylor and Tajae Sharpe, the Titans may have some hope in the receivers department. But let’s not ignore the fact that the two top receivers have been hurt all offseason so far.
Will they be healthy enough for training camp? Will they be ready to go come week one? Or, will Mariota be without his top two guys?
