Everson Griffen is a top-rated pass rusher that might be underlooked because of Jadeveon Clowney but would be a great fit for the Tennessee Titans.

There’s no reason why the Tennessee Titans shouldn’t have a backup plan for Jadeveon Clowney, and Everson Griffen would be a perfect backup plan for the Titans.

Griffen has announced that he won’t be returning to Minnesota after spending his entire career with the Vikings. Instead, he will be looking for a new team for the 2020 season and beyond.

This came as a surprise to me as I thought Griffen would hang around Minnesota for a while, but it looks like he will be in a new uniform this fall.

The 32-year-old defensive end finished the 2019 season with eight sacks and has finished with double-digit sacks three times during his career.

Compared to Clowney, Griffen also offers consistency in the health department, something Clowney can’t offer. Griffen has played in 15 games or more in eight of his ten seasons in the NFL.

The price tag isn’t nearly as high on Griffen, either, so it might be a better option for the Titans because they will be able to negotiate another contract or two if they sign Griffen.

Griffen’s age might be an issue, but with him being 32-years-old, he has at least a couple more good years left in him, so it might be hard to argue that Clowney being five years younger would be a much better option since he might not hang around Tennessee past this contract anyways.

Outside the pass-rushers, the Titans could be looking for a new cornerback if Logan Ryan signs with a new team in free agency. With that being said, the next player the Titans should sign, or re-sign, is Ryan if the price is right.
