Tennessee Titans hold another tryout, who could be cut and replaced?
The Tennessee Titans cut rookie Cole McDonald and found its backup QB in a recent tryout, so will they be cutting and replacing anyone else?
The Tennessee Titans recently held a tryout with quarterbacks and decided to cut rookie Cole McDonald and sign veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian to replace him on the depth chart as the likely backup to Ryan Tannehill.
I was excited to see what McDonald could do, it seemed like a lot of fans were excited to see what he could do, and the coaches seemed to like him. That didn’t stop the business of the NFL from getting in the way. McDonald didn’t wait too long to get back onto the practice field as he tried out for the Carolina Panthers.
The Titans held another tryout with running backs and defensive backs, so there could be some more players that could be cut if the Titans were impressed by any of the players at the tryouts.
Released by Albert Breer on Twitter, the players that tried out for the Titans are running back Orleans Darkwa, defensive back Rashaan Gaulden, running back Jeremy McNichols, defensive back Doug Middleton, and defensive back Adarius Pickett.
If you’re also a Tennessee Volunteers football fan, then you probably remember Gaulden and his infamous moment in Bryant-Denny Stadium after the Vols scored a defensive touchdown when he flipped out the Alabama fans in the stands.
With these players trying out, some Titans players could be cut if any of these guys showed out. The Titans could be looking for a fourth running back, or possibly someone better than rookie Darrynton Evans or fullback Khari Blasingame if neither of them are performing in training camp.
McNichols could be a player of interest as he was a standout during last season’s preseason camp with the Titans before being cut. The Titans could be interested in bringing him back to see if he can earn a roster spot this season.
I mentioned in a previous article that the Titans could look into recent free agent Earl Thomas, but if that doesn’t work out and the Titans want to add a little more depth or release a current defensive back to sign a player who tried out, then we could see that move be made soon.
We could see players like Ibraheim Campbell or Kareem Orr be on their way out if someone impresses in their tryouts.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Titans make more moves by cutting and releasing players during this extended training camp, even if they don’t make any moves after this specific tryout.
